How Man vs. Nature Conflicts Are Emboldened in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

In a story, conflict can be either internal or external, but Geralt's main man vs. nature conflict in The Witcher 3 combines the two.

Man vs. nature, which refers to both Geralt's fight with the physical world around him and its natural state of existence, is the primary conflict in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The dual nature of internal and exterior conflict in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt results in more dynamic characters and a more interesting plot. Narrative design enables writers to control characters, settings, and plots to create conflict that is fascinating.

The narrative team behind The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt created a plot that is so dense and intertwined that players might find it challenging to figure out which characters are on whose side, which factions are at war with one another, and a variety of other elements. But the fact that Geralt of Rivia, the game's main character, must contend with a variety of foes and challenges in order to save Ciri from the Wild Hunt, never gets lost.

Different Forms of Conflict in a Story

Conflict in a Narrative

There are numerous conflicts in every story, either internal to the main character's head or external that the reader can see (external). A boss battle in Elden Ring would be an example of an exterior conflict because it would be "man vs. man" in the open.

However, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice externalises such battles to create a colourful, dynamic environment. Senua's battle with mental illness, on the other hand, is a traditional "man vs. himself" internal conflict that resides in the character's mind. Internal tensions can be crafted in a variety of ways by writers and game designers so that the plot makes sense and has actual weight.

Sometimes the fight in a video game is man vs. nature, in which the character is up against not just themself but also the environment. Games like The Forest, which challenge a father to trek the wilderness in order to save his son from a cannibalistic tribe, immerse players in harsh environments. Even though the cannibals are the major bad guys, the main character has to deal with a lot of tension from his environment.

As Geralt travels the Continent in quest of Ciri, his adoptive daughter, he encounters both internal and foreign strife. Given that Geralt is a Witcher and possesses a moral code, his primary internal conflict is with his own nature because he is prone to extreme violence and brutality. Even though Geralt from The Witcher 3 spends his time trying to achieve justice and peace in a cruel world, there is a reason he is known as the Butcher of Blaviken.

Geralt does not find this world to be very kind. Despite hoping that Geralt will deal with other monsters, the villagers dread him because of his cat eyes and silver hair and still view him as a monster. Geralt has made some awful decisions in his life, but he has also encountered some bad luck. His life has been challenging since the day he through the Witcher trials.

Externally, the world Geralt inhabits is one that is violent, sinister, and merciless. Geralt frequently encounters challenging enemies in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, such as creatures, spectres, elementals, gryphons, and more. Geralt visits many towns to determine if the populace is secure. The world is filled with many friends, ghosts, vampires, and other evils, and people count on Geralt and the Witchers to keep them safe.

The Witcher 3's world is also rife with enigmatic and captivating magic. It is complex, embodying chaos, art, and science, and it runs amok, spawning many creatures, natural (and artificial) phenomena, and other enigmatic things. The laws governing this magic are complex and occasionally brittle as the fabric of the universe disintegrates. The Witchers' sigil hand sign spells are produced by these rules, which also produce sorceresses like Yennefer and Triss.

One mysterious enchantment that is creeping on the Continent is called The White Frost. Characters in The Witcher 3 live or die based on the conclusion the player chooses. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's conflict is primarily a "man vs. nature" struggle in which the hero battles his own internal conflicts, conflicts with other characters, conflicts raging throughout the natural world, and of course, Gwent. This conflict is made up of both internal and external conflicts.
